The Indian egg industry’s growth has fueled the need for quality assurance and safety checks within the country’s egg supply chain. This gap is filled by the e2necc National Egg Co-Ordination Committee.
Headquartered in New Delhi, the NECC operates throughout the country with the aim of increasing with volume and EXIM value. Its central office is supported by local commercial offices in every state along with thirteen regional offices to help with consumer and market research.
The NECC has a few directives which are:
An idea Conceived by Dr.B.V.Rao, it is based on a co-operative spirit and a simpleconviction, the right to determine their own selling price. NECC is a movement of the farmer and democratically run by the farmers. Due to the efforts of NECC the difference in the farmer's selling rate and the consumer's buying rate is not more than 35-40%(the lowest in the world).
The NECC has an egg industry’s presence in the country through its chapters in all the major egg producing states- Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. This helps the organization to grasp the peculiarities of each region to exploit the challenges and opportunities in the region's egg industry.
Of the many projects that the NECC has undertaken, perhaps one of the most important is the formulation of the National Egg Standard (NES). The NES prescribes the required quality and safety standards for eggs and their best practices of handling and processing. It is compulsory for all NECC Members, and it serves to guarantee that eggs quality and safety standards are at optimum level.
The NECC is developing an R&D service to provide some technical and scientific assistance to its members. For instance, NECC runs an Egg Quality Improvement Program (EQIP), which seeks to upgrade egg producers’ capability by training them in best practices in egg production, management, and hygiene.
Another thrust area for NECC is its education and awareness programs to the general public, with the purpose of boosting egg consumption through greater appreciation of its nutritional value.
